Alkagesta Joins International Bunker Industry Association as Corporate Member

Malta-headquartered commodity trading and marine fuel supplier Alkagesta has formally joined the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) as a corporate member. The affiliation marks an important step in reinforcing the trading firm's standing within international marine fuel markets and institutional frameworks.

According to an announcement covered by industry publication Ship & Bunker, Alkagesta highlighted that membership in the global bunkering organisation underscores its operational dedication to the marine energy sector. IBIA represents an established industry platform bringing together shipowners, suppliers, traders, and regulatory authorities to engage on market compliance and technical standards.

Mithat Ciftcioglu, marine distribution director at Alkagesta, stated that the company views the association as a valuable collaborative platform for shaping the trajectory of marine energy rather than just a formal affiliation. He noted that the group aims to bring its expertise in structured commodity trade and physical logistics to the wider organisation while cooperating with industry peers committed to compliance and market innovation.

The IBIA corporate membership follows a sequence of operational expansions undertaken by Alkagesta across maritime and bunkering supply chains throughout 2025. Earlier in the year, the trading firm detailed plans to distribute ultra-low sulphur fuel oil (ULSFO) across Central and Eastern Mediterranean destinations to accommodate regional regulatory demand following the implementation of the Mediterranean Emission Control Area.

Alongside regional European low-sulphur deliveries, the company has scaled its global energy operations. Alkagesta established a specialised biofuel trading desk located in Geneva and secured dedicated bulk storage capacity at the Horizon terminal in Singapore to support international bunkering flows.
